The Beaver Chronicles Part III

The beavers have left us.

In the middle of the day, they disappeared. A massive tractor came and knocked down the dam.

In a fit of curiousity, I decided to pay the critters a visit. More to see if the local government was actually putting my tax dollars to good use than to commune with the rodents.

Surprisingly, only six weeks after the wheels of removal were set in motion via an email to my councillor, the dam has disappeared. The food store two doors over has also been removed and the culprit culvert forcibly ejected from the drainage ditch. It now sits forlornly next to the trail.

While six weeks might not sound that great, I imagine that the township had to contact the owner to notify them that they would be removing their culvert and then had to wait patiently for the unsuspecting beavers to step into whichever humane trap was waiting for them. They surely didn’t go quietly but no shots were fired.

Make no mistake, this is not over. They are rodents. They like water. They will return.
